The book is not a novel, it does not provide a critique of the fashion world and it does not uncover any juicy details about it. It is Mrs Coddington's personal recollection of all turning point moments and amazing personalities - all related to fashion - she met during her marvelous career. Still, she enables the reader to see what it means to work in the iconic world of Vogue. What I truly admire about Mrs. Coddington's approach to fashion is that she does not try to create a character for herself and therefore she does not fall and remain trapped in any fashion cliche. Her incredible fantasy and romantic vision enable her to create dreamy editorials, yet she also displays a fair amount of pragmatism.
Since the release of the book, Mrs. Coddington has been exposed to any media and social channels, and I was so happy when I managed to (ehm) 'talk' to her. Well, at least I like to think that I have something in common with this inspiring character.

I would like to conclude this end-of-the year post by thanking you all for the kind wishes and visits during these festive days. I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed a Merry Christmas and, once again, I wish you all the best for a wonderful 2013!

I'm dying to read this book! I discovered Grace the same way you did and find her to be such a refreshing personality in an Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld world. Happy New Year, Caterina!

I have heard so much about Grace Coddington but I've never thought to buy this book until I heard of it few weeks ago, seems like an interesting present to do for myself as the 2013 is beginning in a few days. I like your general insight on this book and the fact you took a photo of the page where she tells us about her conception of fashion which is really uncommon to me since I always hear that fashion is art.

DeleteI've been so intrigued by Grace Coddington ever since I watched the September issue. Her editorials look so amazing.

ReplyDeleteSaw this book on the weekend and wanted to pick it up, actually regret not buying it then! I love Grace's ability to almost detach herself from her work; she's such an interesting character from all the interviews I read about her! And wow - I'm a flats person soo, thanks for finding that out for us!

This is on my 'to get' list too! I refrained from buying it incase it ended up under my tree, but it never. I did have a huge list of books I asked for though & got lots of other great ones, so I'll be getting this once I'm finished with those! :)
ReplyDeleteI think she is just so fascinating & she has lived such an intriguing life! The thing I love most about her is how practical she is though, she understands fashion is a business & how even after all these years she's not been swallowed up by all the fake-ness & glamour of the fashion industry. Such an inspiring woman!
Happy New Year! :)
Happy new year!!!
