CHEVAL SURPRISE

Defined by Vanessa Friedman as "[...]  a meeting of equals, as opposed to a calculated attempt to leverage power in different spheres to everyone’s commerical benefit, like most celeb/brand “lines” these days", the Hermès for COMME des GARÇONS  collaboration got my total attention because of this scarf. I have been looking for Cheval Surprise, the carré created by Dimitri Rybaltchenko in 2004, ever since I saw it around the stylish neck of my mother in law. I looked for it everywhere. I would have preferred it without the Vichy print tablecloth appendix, but if this Comme des Carrés' "Noir et Blanc" piece is the only way I can get it, so be it. And, if even this attempt should fail, my last resource will be bribing my lovely mother in law.

Practical info: According to Vogue Paris, the Comme des Carrés Noir et Blanc collection is available from February 6 in Comme des Garçons boutiques in Paris, and the Couleur collection is available from February 8 at Dover Street Market in Tokyo and from February 12 at Dover Street Market in London. However, media outlets are providing diverging dates and I'm trying to investigate the matter...

04 February UPDATE: All release dates are available in the post "Comme Des Garcons X Hermes unveils ‘Comme des Carrés’ scarves (plus hats and gloves are coming)", many thanks to Disneyrollergirl!

  1. I would have preferred it without the tablecloth appendix too. But it's still beautiful. I hope it will be yours soon. :)

  2. The tablecloth appendix does seem a bit incongruous, I must say - looking at the photo of it on the white background of your blog, I honestly wondered where it fit in with the rest of the scarf. Still, the rest of the piece is hauntingly beautiful - you know my feelings on all things black and white :) For the time being this beauty is out of my financial reach, so I hope I can live vicariously through you wearing it soon :)

  3. I could not agree more on the tablecloth appendix and even more so when put in such a contrast with the esthetic beauty of the original Hermes print....the only question that come to mind is why? what does the table cloth add to the original design?...Please do not get it and go for the original.

  4. Totally agree that it would be better without the checked print. It's still pretty gorgeous though! xx

  5. This looks like the card with odd looking stains that psychiatrists show to crazy people asking what they see in them. I see bullshit in this.

  6. What a fabulous scarf! I do agree that it would look better sans checked print, but fabulous nonetheless! xx

  7. caterina this is so beautiful, i think the checks add a bit of a "signature" to it, so i don't mind it so much but artistically i would prefer it without too.
